Our Story

The Origins

On the southwestern slope of Montalcino, where the Tuscan landscape unfolds in a breathtaking sweep of hills, cypress trees, and ancient castles, stands Tenuta Friggiali.

Here, the radiant light of the Maremma meets the cooling breezes of Mount Amiata, and every vine tells the story of a constant dialogue between man and nature.

The estate’s heritage is etched in history: cited in the ancient records of the “Augustinians of Montalcino,” Tenuta Friggiali was already renowned as a “farmstead with a manor, arable lands, lush vineyards, and woodlands.”

The Visionary’s Dream

The bond with this land began in 1980, when Giovanni Peluso, a Neapolitan lawyer captivated by the Tuscan landscape, chose to invest in his first four hectares of vineyards on the hills of Montalcino.

With sensitivity and vision, he transformed a small agricultural dream into a lifelong project, laying the foundations for what would become one of the most authentic estates in the world of Brunello.

The Birth of the Brand

In 1987, the Tenuta Friggiali brand was officially born.

It was a period of growth and renewal: the cellar expanded, the vineyards grew, and the passion deepened.

In just a few years, the estate reached 45 hectares—44 of which are dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino—thanks in part to the 1995 acquisition of the vineyards surrounding Castello della Velona, in the Pietranera area. Here, the soil, altitude, and winds create an ideal microcosm to express the purest soul of Sangiovese.

The Stewards of the Legacy

Today, Tenuta Friggiali is part of the Società Agricola Centolani srl, which brings together the estates of Friggiali, Pietrafocaia, Pietranera, and Poggiotondo, spanning a total of 200 hectares, including 44 hectares of Brunello vineyards, alongside olive groves, arable land, and woodlands.

The historic cellar in the heart of Montalcino still preserves the same vibrant energy that inspired Giovanni Peluso.

The future of the company is now in the hands of Giovanni’s children, Davide and Olga, who lead the estate with the same passion and dedication as their father.

Beside them, his grandsons Giovanni and Lorenzo Peluso, heirs to a family tradition spanning generations, blend heritage with innovation. Together, harvest after harvest, they continue to write the story of a family and its wine.
