Frigidi: The Etymology of Freshness
The name itself, “Friggiali,” is believed to derive from the Latin frigidi, evoking the freshness and constant ventilation that define this area.
Here, a subtle yet persistent breeze dries the vines after the rain, helping to keep them healthy, while the cool microclimate and altitude promote a slow, gradual ripening of the grapes.
The terrain, situated upon pietraforte and alberese (calcareous marl) substrates, creates alkaline and sub-alkaline soils rich in active limestone, clay, and minerals. This complex and deep environment provides the clusters with concentration, elegance, and an aromatic profile of great finesse.
The southwestern exposure grants light and warmth during the most vital hours of the day, perfectly balanced by cool nights that enhance the wine’s bouquet and acidity.
